Medical Facilities:

Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy: Alder Hey Children’s Hospital has performed the first Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR) in the North of England. The SDR technique is available in the States and used for the treatment of cerebral palsy, however it is not widely available in the UK. The surgery is performed to reduce spasticity, improve function, improve walking and to increase the range of motion and improve body positioning. Intra-operative 3-T MRI Scanner:: This is the first such installation dedicated to paediatrics in Europe which enables scans to be carried out in the operating theatre during surgery.
